This is a mechanical treatment method in which the uppermost layer of skin is removed using a diamond abrader (called a burr or fraise). This method can be used to eliminate minor wrinkles and skin impurities. The skin’s appearance becomes tighter, and the skin appears fresher overall. This treatment, however, cannot be performed without medical supervision, and, depending on the extent of the treatment, may require local anesthetic or a state of twilight sleep. The healing time is up to 12 weeks; a sun block must be worn on the skin for up to 6 months following the intervention. Given the complexity of the intervention and the need for anesthetics, this is not at all appropriate for home use.
